Gulf Leighton's joint venture with local developer the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has been awarded contracts totalling $435m to build hotel, resorts and golf course projects in Abu Dhabi.
The contracts include a tourist village on Saadiyat island, a five-star hotel adjacent to the Abu Dhabi national golf course, the Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Resort, the 18-hole Gary Player Golf Course, and refurbishing the Desert Islands Resort and Spa, an existing 64-room hotel located on the northern part of Sir Baniyas Island.
The contracts also include the construction of a headquarters for TDIC and its parent, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
TDIC and Leighton entered a joint venture agreement in December last year. The 51-49 joint venture, TDIC-Leighton Contracting, was formed to undertake contracting for civil engineering and infrastructure, building, and mechanical and electrical projects, project and construction management and facilities management services for TDIC (MEED 9:1:08).
