    Kuwaiti logistics firm Agility says it is in talks with the US government regarding a settlement in a fraud case, but no deal has been reached yet.     Boeing has said that "final gauntlet" testing on its 787 Dreamliner has been completed, paving the way for its first flight to take off as early as December 15, the Associated Press has reported.     Dubai World's Istithmar unit has lost control of the W New York Union Square hotel in a foreclosure auction, Bloomberg has reported. LEM, an affiliate of Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds, won an auction for the mezzanine debt on the luxury Manhattan hotel, which was purchased by Istithmar in 2006 for $285m. LEM bid $2m for the debt.
  • Jazeera Airways eyes expansion

    Marwan Boodai, Chairman of Kuwait's low-cost carrier, Jazeera Airways has said the airline is eyeing acquisitions among Middle East carriers in the first half of 2010 rather than launching a second hub, Saudi Gazette has reported. 'We are talking to more than one company at this stage and we feel the time is good in 2010 to close at least one deal,' he said. Jazeera is seeking to expand its network to 82 routes in the next five years, he added.

    Abdullah al-Dabbagh, CEO of Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) has said the firm has signed an agreement with US-based aluminium giant, Alcoa to build a $10.8bn aluminium complex, Reuters has reported. The two firms will build a 1.8 million tonnes per year aluminium refinery and a 740,000 million tonnes per year smelter in Ras Azzour on the kingdom's Gulf coast. The smelter is scheduled to start production in 2013 while the refinery would come online in 2014, al-Dabbagh said.

    According to Meed magazine, Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) has retendered a $1bn construction contract for its 1.6 million tonnes per year alumina refinery.     According to traffic data released by IATA, passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport rose 12.6% in November, marking the sixth consecutive month of double-digit growth, Gulf News has reported. The airport handled a total of 3,520,287 passengers in November 2009 compared to 3,125,351 passengers during the same month last year, raising the year to date passenger throughput to 37,085,392, up 8.5% over the first 11 months of 2008.

    The UAE's ministry of interior has said it is considering imposing an age limit of 17 and special testing and licensing for quad bikes in the country, The National has reported. Currently, no licence is required to operate a quad bike, and Dubai is the only emirate to impose an age restriction.

    Hotels in the UAE suffered a 28.3% drop in revenue per available room (revPAR) in November, according to a new report by STR Global. Occupancy rates in the country also took a slide in November, falling nearly nine percent compared to the same month in 2008, to 75.5%.     Work has started on Qatar Petrochemical Company's new low-density polyethylene (LDPE-3) plant in Mesaieed Industrial City, the Peninsula has reported.   • Yemenia inks deal for 10 aircraft

    Yemen's national carrier, Yemenia, has signed a $700m agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 10 new A320 airbus aircraft, as part of the airline's strategy to increase routes and develop its fleet, KUNA has reported. The first two planes of the batch will arrive in 2011, followed by two more every year following, Chairman Abdulkhaliq Al-Qadhi said.     Zain Kuwait has said its wireless device, Zain Mifi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, will initially be launched in its Kuwait operation, with plans to extend the service to other operations in the future. The Mifi device provides freedom from Wi-Fi hotspots, allowing users to bring Internet access anywhere and share that access with a set of devices.
