Greenfield development to utilise internet-of-things platform

Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC) and China-headquartered Huawei have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the provision of smart solutions across eleven buildings at the Dubai South Business Park Zone.

The “smart” solutions will include network planning as well as the provision of an internet-of-things (IoT) platform that would include fixed and mobile broadband infrastructure and security and surveillance systems, among others.

This means future tenants at the Business Park will have access to advanced ICT infrastructure that would allow for more efficient operations.

In addition to deploying a complete smart city and surveillance package, Huawei will be providing training and workshops as well as visits to global customer sites that have implemented its smart city solutions.

The Business Park is looking to offer commercial spaces for companies operating across diverse sectors that include aviation, logistics, general trading, finance, business consultancies, training institutions, retail, fitness and food and beverage.

The partnership ”is an important step in establishing Dubai South as a city that serves its inhabitants and facilitates business and trade through smart solutions,” Khalifa al-Zaffin, DACC executive chairman, said in a statement.

The Business Park is one of the key features of the plan to develop Dubai South as an aetropolis that is anchored around the Al-Maktoum International airport (AMIA), Dubai’s second airport.

Dubai said in September last year that it was developing a luxurious freehold residential cluster at Dubai South with a budget of AED25bn ($6.8bn).

The first cluster will feature 6,000 residential units, with construction set to start in 2016. The first dwellers should move in by 2019.

Earlier this month, local developer Mag 5 Property Development awarded the local Fujairah National Construction Company an estimated $191m contract to build its Boulevard project at Dubai South.

The project is a medium-income housing community located close to the Expo 2020 site and Dubai Parks. It includes villas, townhouses, apartments, schools and public areas.
