  • 556 hotels planned for Middle East

    A total of 556 new hotels are in the project pipeline in the Middle East, reported MEED, citing statistics from US-based hotel analyst Lodging Econometrics. The bulk of this new capacity is destined for Dubai, with 155 projects and nearly 57,390 rooms either planned or under construction. This exceeds the amount planned for any other city in the world. However, many of the projects face delays or are being put on hold indefinitely due to the financial crisis.

  • Air Arabia to add up to five planes per year

    Air Arabia plans to increase the number of aircraft operating in the UAE at an annual rate of four to five aircraft, Adel Ali, CEO of the airline, told CNBC Arabiya. Ali stressed that there is no reduction in the expansion plans for Air Arabia as approved by the company in its five-year plan. These expansion plans include four new planes to enter service into 2009 and the opening of a major station for the company in Casablanca, Morocco to transfer passengers to Europe and Africa.
  • Air India adds Dubai flight

    To meet growing passenger demand, India's low-cost carrier, Air India Express, will operate an additional daily night flight from Dubai to Mangalore. The new flight will commence from January 12. The carrier, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India, will also commence three flights weekly to Pune, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

  • Satyam chairman resigns after admitting fraud

    The chairman of Satyam Computer Services, India's fourth-largest software services exporter, resigned yesterday, disclosing that profits had been falsely inflated for years and sending its shares tumbling nearly 80%.
