33= Al-Uqair Tourism Development

Project Overview

As part of a wider programme to expand

the country’s tourism industry, the Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquities is planning to develop a purpose-built city on the country’s east coast.

The resort will be able to accommodate about 200,000 residents with facilities likely to include hotels, marinas, sports grounds and amusement parks.

The 100 sq km project will primarily be aimed at Saudi nationals and visitors from other GCC states and will be completed in stages. Industry sources indicate the project, still in its design stage, has been put on hold until early 2011.
