The 4th Arabian World Construction Summit (AWCS) was opened in Abu Dhabi this morning by Abdulla Sultan Alfan al-Shamsi, counsellor of industrial affairs atthe UAE’s Ministry of Economy.
“A key component of our successful crisis management was our decision to boost public spending, thus stimulating economic activity across key sectors,” Al-Shamsi told the AWCS. “Public spending in the UAE reached its highest following the crisis and stood at 32.8 per cent of GDP in 2010.”
“Throughout the crisis we continued to build new roads, bridges, railways, airports and free zones,” he said. “Such construction activity, along with our traditional strengths in logistics, trade and tourism, kept us resilient, eventually proving our critics wrong.”
Speakers at the AWCS include Fatima al-Jaber, chief operating officer at Abu Dhabi’s Al Jaber Group, Samer Khouri, executive vice president at CCC, and TAV president and CEO Mustafa Sener.
