The local Al-Naboodah Engineering Services has been awarded the AED 800 million ($218 million) infrastructure contract at Business Bay.

The contract is one of the largest for infrastructure ever awarded in Dubai.

The scope of works includes phases 1 and 2 of Business Bay and involves construction of internal roads and bridges and the installation of services between Shaikh Zayed road and Doha road.

The first phase of the creek extension, the infrastructure and the first crop of towers are scheduled for completion by the end of 2007. About 10 projects have already moved on-site, including Executive towers, Deyaar's Citadel tower and Omniyat's One Business Bay. Designs for a further 27 projects have been submitted and work is expected to start on-site soon.

About 150 towers are planned for Business Bay, to be built on the banks of the new creek extension running from Ras al-Khor around the Burj Dubai development and across Shaikh Zayed road back into the Gulf. The total budget for the entire development is estimated at AED 73,000 million ($20,000 million).

The local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty is working on the creek extension. The UK's Halcrow prepared the masterplan and the infrastructure consultant. Dubai Properties, part of Dubai Holding, is the client (28:4:06).
