Companies line up for Shuqaiq conveyor
The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has prequalified six international companies and groups for the six construction packages on the estimated $1,200 million Shuqaiq water conveyance project.Bids are due by the extended 12 November deadline. Awards are expected in the first half of 2007 (MEED 2:6:06).The prequalifiers are: a Dutch/local consortium of A Hak International, Al-Rashid Trading & Contracting Company and Saudi Services for Electro-Mechanical Works Company (SSEM); Turkeys Yuksel with the local Bin Jarallah Establishment for Trading & General Contracting; Mapa of Turkey; STFA and Oztas, both of Turkey; the local Aziz European Pipe Company with Stroytransgaz of Russia; and Italys Saipem. In addition, a consortium of the local Al-Harbi Trading & Contracting and the Netherlands Suedrohrbau has been provisionally prequalified pending a final decision by the client.Comprising more than 900 kilometres of pipe, the scheme is aimed at transporting potable water from the planned independent water and power project (IWPP) at Shuqaiq to the southern cities of Abha and Jizan.SWCC will procure the carbon steel pipe from local manufacturers, although prospective bidders for the construction packages have the option to submit prices for the supply of ductile iron pipe for some sections of the conveyor system.The A Hak/Al-Rashid/SSEM consortium won the estimated $580 million contract to install the Shuaibah IWPP water transmission system earlier in the year.
