The local Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), has received bids for two major contracts on its AED 100,000 million ($27,200 million) Saadiyat island development. The contracts cover a bridge connecting the island to Abu Dhabi island and dredging works (MEED 1:9:06).

For the bridge, three groups have submitted bids. The bidders are: Germany's Ed Zueblin with the local Saif bin Darwish; South Korea's Samsung Corporation with the local Al-Jaber Group; and Japan's Taisei Corporation with Turkey's Nurol Group. The project is one of the largest infrastructure schemes in the emirate. It entails the construction of a 1,455-metre-long segmental box girder bridge, with five carriageways running in each direction for road traffic and two central lanes reserved for a provisional rail link (see page 23). The contract also covers construction of a road between the bridge and the existing Mina road on Abu Dhabi island and two 200-metre ramps leading onto Saadiyat island.

The works are expected to take about 36 months to complete (MEED 21:7:06).

The bidders for the dredging package include Van Oord Gulf and Royal Boskalis Westminster, both of the Netherlands, Dredging International and Jan de Nul, both of Belgium, and the local National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC). The contract calls for the dredging and reclamation of 40 million cubic metres of material. The consultant for both contracts is US-based Parsons International (MEED 14:7:06).
