Sipetrol, the international

subsidiary of Chile's state-owned oil company Empresa Nacional del Petroleo, announced on 12 November a new discovery in its East Ras Qattara block in the Western Desert. The Shahd-1 well, drilled to 3,480 metres, tested at a flow rate of between 700-1,000 barrels a day of crude. Sipetrol operates the concession and holds the majority stake in an exploration licence it shares with Australia's Oil Search (MEED 1:9:06).
