Despite international attempts to curtail Iran's nuclear programme, the country's atomic power company has issued a tender for the construction of two more power plants.

The two contracts are for plants of 1,000-MW to 1,600-MW each in Bushehr Province, near the site of the Islamic Republic's first atomic plant, which is nearing completion.

The client is Nuclear Power Production & Development Company (NPPDC), a subsidiary of Iran Atomic Energy Organisation (IAEO). Bidders have been asked to quote for the design, equipment supply, construction and commissioning of the two third-generation nuclear plants, which are to use pressurised light-water reactors similar to those in Bushehr.

A bid bond of Eur 20 million ($27.2 million) has been set for each project.

The first Bushehr project is being developed by Russia's Atomstroiexport, and was originally scheduled for completion this year.
