SNC Lavalin wins carbon capture and storage study
Canada's SNC Lavalin has won the contract to conduct a feasibility study for the multi-billion-dollar carbon capture and storage programme planned by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Adfec) under the Masdar initiative.
The study, to be completed by the end of the year, will evaluate options for the capture of carbon dioxide from major emission sources and look at how it can be delivered to oil operators for enhanced oil recovery projects (MEED 23:3:07). It will also recommend the first project to be implemented.
SNC Lavalin beat competition from Foster Wheeler and Jacobs Engineering, both US-based, Australia's Worley Parsons and Paris-based Technip to win the deal.
Emission sourcses that will be investigated include industrial facilities, power plants and oil and gas facilities.
