Qatari Diar invites interest in Lusail design package
Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company has launched the tendering process for design package 1 on its multi-billion-dollar Lusail real estate development.
Interested international contractors have until 10 September to submit technical and commercial bids for the contract. The contractors must have an annual average turnover of more than $1,000 million over the past five years.
The work covers the first phase infrastructure for the development, involving more than 21 kilometres of roads, street lighting and almost 1 million square metres of landscaping work. The power transmission and distribution systems needed include 15 substations, 42 kilometres of telecoms cables and 14 kilometres of utility tunnels.
The contract is the first infrastructure package to be issued to bid on the development.
Design packages 2-4, covering a similar amount of work, are due to be tendered later this year, while design package 5, which covers seven road interchanges, and design package 6, which involves nine bridges, are both likely to be tendered in 2008.
Covering an area of 35 square kilometres north of Doha, Lusail will include residential buildings, retail and commercial centres, and hotels capable of accommodating more than 170,000 people.
China's Sinohydro was awarded a $440 million contract in 2006 covering the initial marine, earthworks and site preparation (MEED 24:3:06).
