Five firms tour Ras Tanura site
Five contractors have toured the site of the prospective East Coast refinery at Ras Tanura, after client Saudi Aramco issued bid documents for the $7,000 million-8,000 million, 400,000-barrel-a-day project.The companies invited to bid are Foster Wheeler and KBR of the US, Australia's Worley Parsons, Canada's SNC Lavalin and Japan's JGC Corporation. KBR is thought to be in a strong position after winning the consultancy contract for project management of the Ras Tanura refinery upgrade (MEED 13:7:07).KBR is expected to draw on the same pricing structure for its new bid, although it is unclear whether Aramco is willing to award a second large contract to a contractor at the same location.Bids are due by 15 September.
