Nakheel invites tower bids
Nakheel has invited companies to bid by the end of September for the Trump International Hotel & Tower on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. The project is one of the biggest tendered in Dubai in 2007.
The property developer has approached several contractors for the project, including the local/South African joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises and Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), the local/Australian Nasa Multiplex, the local Khansaheb Civil Engineering and the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourke.
The tower will be a 48-storey mixed-use development with a 300-room hotel and 360 apartments. It will have a viewing gallery and five-star restaurants at its highest point.
Further public areas and lobbies will be located throughout the property to provide additional viewing points.
Unlike the earlier tulip-shaped scheme, the new hotel will be more angular and form an archway straddling the Palm monorail. The tower was also expected to straddle a canal along the trunk of the island, but plans were changed when Nakheel replaced the canal with a park.
Australia's Bovis Lend Lease is the project manager. The UK's Atkins is the consultant. Nakheel is developing the hotel in a joint venture with the US' Trump Organisation (MEED 5:5:06).
The Trump Tower site was originally to be used for the Pinnacle Tower project, but Nakheel shelved the plans and decided to build the 1,050-metre Tall Tower elsewhere (MEED 13:7:07).
