Cairo considers expressways
Japan's Katahira & Engineers International is carrying out a feasibility study on the extension and construction of three high-priority expressways in Greater Cairo.Japan International Co-operation Agency is overseeing the scheme, which should be completed in July 2008. The project will cover three elevated expressways: extensions to the existing 6 October and 15 May roads and a new road to Nasr City. The General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport is also moving ahead with the country's first performance-based road maintenance contract. The World Bank will oversee the bidding and select a consultant for the project, which covers the maintenance of the 58-kilometre Heiksteb-Bilbies-Zagazig dual carriageway.
