Total and Aramco prepare Jubail storage tank tenders
Tender documents are being prepared for the two crude storage tank packages on the 400,000-barrel-a-day Jubail export refinery project, planned by France's Total and Saudi Aramco.
More than a dozen local and international contractors have submitted expressions of interest in the two lump-sum engineering, procurement and construction contracts. Together they are expected to total about $800 million.
Invitation to bid documents are due to be issued by the end of 2007, with an award expected by the end of the second quarter of 2008.
The work covers the construction of 88 storage tanks, with a total capacity of more than 2.6 million cubic metres.
Separately, a tender is due to be issued by the end of October for the refinery's marine works package, which calls for the dredging of a 60-hectare area - reduced from the originally envisaged 120-hectare area - to increase storage capacity for oil products.
Five international companies and groups have been prequalified for the estimated $300 million contract, including the local Huta Group, Royal Boskalis Westminster and Van Oord, both of the Netherlands, Geneva-registered Archirodon Construction (Overseas), and China Harbour Engineering Company.
Prequalification applications were due on 20 September for the five main process packages, with tenders for each to be issued by the end of year. A final investment decision on the estimated $12,000 million-13,000 million project is also expected by the end of the year (MEED 14:9:07).
