Adnoc issues tender for Abu Dhabi gas network

Adnoc Distribution has issued the long-awaited tender covering the first phase of the Abu Dhabi gas distribution network project.

The gas grid will initially cover Abu Dhabi city and the new island developments of Reem, Yas and Saadiyat, as well as the Mussafah industrial area, before being extended in later stages to cover a series of other areas of the emirate.

Prequalified companies have been given until the end of December to submit bids for the estimated AED 1,000 million ($272 million) project. The scheme will be implemented on an engineering, procurement and construction, and operation and maintenance basis. Commercial bids are due to be submitted

by April 2008.

The first phase of the scheme covers the installation of more than 350 kilometres of polyethylene pipe, approximately 2,500 gas metres to measure use in residential developments, the conversion of the existing bottled gas networks to natural gas and the construction of primary and secondary pressure reduction stations

Prospective bidders for the contract include the local/Canadian BC Lootah, US-based Willbros, Contracting & Trading Company (CAT) of Lebanon, Larsen & Toubro and Punj Lloyd, both of India, and two local companies, Al-Jaber Energy Services and Dodsal.

The UK's Hyder Consulting is the project manager, while Canada's Terasen International is the front-end engineering and design contractor
