The local First United General Trading & Contracting has been awarded the contract to build four towers as part of the $250 million Kuwait Business Town development.

Two of the towers will be 27 storeys tall, with a third at 26 storeys and a fourth at 29. The consultant for this phase of the project is the US' Fentress Bradburn, with the local Pan Arab Consulting Engineers. Work on the towers is due to be completed by mid-2009.

Three of the four towers have already been sold, to the local Al Mazaya Real Estate Development Company, National International Holding Company and Global Investment House respectively. The client for the entire Kuwait Business Town project is the Kuwait Business Town Real Estate Company, and the project manager is Al-Mazaya.

The project will eventually consist of six towers and include offices, shopping malls, convention centres and leisure facilities (MEED 6:4:07).

In a separate phase of the development, bids for the construction of two towers, which will be 40 and 36 storeys high respectively, are

being evaluated.

The contract is due to be awarded by the middle of November. The consultant for tower construction phase of the scheme is the local KEO International Consultants.

The project was launched several years ago but, as with other projects in Kuwait, has been delayed because of concerns over building permits, utility requirements and height restrictions.
