Saline Water invites bid for three plants
State-owned desalination company Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has issued a tender to build three small-scale multi-effect distillation desalination plants. The deadline for bids is 6 January 2008.
Three of the plants will be located on the Red Sea coast in the north-west of the country, at Haql, Duba and Al-Wajh.
They will have capacities of 9,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d), 9,000 cm/d and 11,000 cm/d respectively. A fourth plant will be built on the eastern coast at Al-Khafji and will have a capacity of 30,000 cm/d. The total cost of the plants is estimated at SR 750 million ($201 million) (MEED 9:9:05).
