    A senior official of the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport said the emirate plans to have the first segment of its metro rail line operational by October 2015. Speaking at a Meed conference, Dr Abdul Gader Al Shabani, Senior Transportation Planning Specialist, told delegates the feasibility study to build a metro in Abu Dhabi would begin in November and last 21 months.

    Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), a 50-50 joint-venture between Qatar Petroleum and Norsk Hydro ASA, is set to start production before the end of 2009 with 90% of the construction already completed, the Peninsula has reported. The $5.6bn project has entered the commissioning stage and will gradually increase production during the first six months to the full annual capacity of 585,000 tons of primary aluminium with potential for increase to 609,000 tons per year.

    Akbar al-Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, has said the airline is 'very interested' in buying Bombardier Inc's CSeries jetliners, but needs to address commercial issues before it makes an order, Reuters has reported.     Qatar Airways has become the first carrier in the world to operate an aircraft powered by gas-to-liquid kerosene on a revenue flight.     Sony has announced a voluntary recall of certain power adapters and docking stations for its Vaio range of laptops.
