Swiss firm considers cement plant investment
Swiss-based Holcim, one of the world's biggest cement companies, is considering investing $150 million to build a cement plant in the northern town of El-Kala, the state-owned El-Mujahid reported on 1 July. Algeria is short of the cement needed for its booming construction sector and is undertaking privatisation of the sector in order to boost supply. The Holcim plant would have capacity of 1.4 million tonnes a year (t/y).
