Algeria kills head of Islamist group

Algerian security forces announced on 19 November that they had killed the leader of the militant Armed Islamist Group (GIA), reported the London-based Arabic language daily Al-Hayat on 20 November. Rachid Aoukali, who is known as Abu Turab, was shot in an assault by security forces on the coastal house of one of Abu Turab's relatives, about 10 kilometres west of Algiers.
