Algeria militant leader arrested
The leader of a radical Islamic rebel group in Algeria has been arrested and his deputy has been killed, the Interior Ministry announced on 4 January. The ministry announced that security services detained Nourredine Boudiafi, head of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA), in east Algiers in November and killed his deputy, Chaabane Younes, in Chlef, 160 miles west of the capital.
