Algiers loses its head
A bitter row at the heart of the political establishment led President Bouteflika on 6 May to replace Prime Minister Ali Benflis with Ahmed Ouyahia. No official reasons were given for Benflis' sudden and public dismissal, but the move follows months of growing tension between the pair over political and economic issues.
