Bouteflika promises amnesty referendum
President Bouteflika announced on 3 July that the government would hold a national referendum on his amnesty plan very soon. He urged Algerians to vote in favour of his initiative. 'My objective is to put an end to the violence: I am waiting for you to get our country out of the deadly crisis,' Bouteflika said.
