Eight soldiers killed in Algeria

Eight soldiers were reported dead after the convoy in which they were travelling was attacked by Islamist militants on 30 September. The incident happened as the vehicles passed through the mountains near the town of Montgorn, some 90 kilometres south of Algeirs. The attackers then opened fire on the troops using weapons they had seized from the military convoy. The government is in the process of cracking down on militants in the country.
