Hundreds die in Algerian earthquake
Hundreds of people were killed and thousands more injured when a powerful earthquake hit northern Algeria on 21 May. The tremor - the biggest since 1980 - struck at 19:45 local time, when many families were in their houses. The epicentre of the quake was in Thenia, about 60 kilometres east of Algiers, but the capital as also badly hit and more than 100 have been confirmed dead there.
