Presidential election campaigning closes
Campaigning closed on 5 April in the presidential election battle, bringing to a close several weeks of sniping and unrest. Algerians go to the polls on 8 April, with a choice of six candidates. However, the real race is between incumbent President Bouteflika and his former prime minister Ali Benflis.
