US says no lethal military equipment will go to Algeria
The US moved swiftly to scotch rumours about its military aid to Algeria, emphasising that no lethal equipment would be exported. Local daily Saout al-Ahrar, organ of the ruling party, reported that the army was preparing a new security plan to combat Islamist violence 'with the help of advanced arms Algeria will receive from Washington in the next few days'.
