UAE banks' ATMs rise 48%, branches up 11%

According to official data by the central bank of the UAE, the number of branches of banks in the country had increased by more than 11% while the electronic banking service units of foreign banks increased by almost 22%, Emirates Business has reported. The number of ATMs in the country had surged by more than 48% from 2,420 at the end of 2008 to 3,599 by the end of last year, while electronic banking service units of foreign banks also went up from 38 in December 2008 to 43 in January 2010, the data showed.
