Parliament passes landmark hydocarbons bill
Algiers took an important step along the road to economic modernisation when parliament passed the long-awaited hydrocarbons bill on 20 March. The bill received a large majority in the National People's Assembly despite its rejection by the Parti des Travailleurs (Workers Party) and the abstention of the El-Islah party.
