Trans-Saharan link studied

A UK consortium has been appointed to assess the feasibility of a trans-Saharan gas pipeline by the Algerian and Nigerian state energy companies. The group, led by engineering firm Penspen, on 7 May signed a $2 million contract with Sonatrachand Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC)to look into proposals for a 7,000-kilometre link from Nigeria through Niger to Algeria.
