Algeria announces third mobile licence
Bidding for the country's third mobile licence opened on 29 September. 'The offers are expected to be decided before the end of the year,' a spokesman for the Posts & Telecoms Ministry told Reuters. At present there are 1.3 million mobile subscribers in Algeria. The local subsidiary of Egypt's Orascom Telecom has one million subscribers and state-owned Algerie Telecom has about 300,000 subscribers.
