Third GSM network prepares for start-up
The technical opening of the country's third GSM network, operated by Wataniya Telecom Algeria (WTA), was completed on 2 August, after the successful testing of short messaging service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) platforms. Commercial start-up of the network is expected by the end of the third quarter. WTA, the local subsidiary of Kuwait's Wataniya Telecom, won Algeria's third GSM licence last December after submitting the high bid of $421 million. ...
