ANP looks to seal aircraft deal
Algeria may be close to securing a major military aircraft deal with Russia, following the visit to the country by Chief of Staff of Algeria's Armee Nationale Populaire (ANP), Major General Salah Ahmed Gaid, in early June. A deal for the purchase of 50 MiG29SMTs has been on the table since early 2004 with an estimated value of $1,500 million. Russia is understood to have offered to take in return 28 older MiG-29s bought from Belarus in 1998 as part of the deal. An estimated $800 million-$1,000 .
