    Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has reported a 22.9% jump in passenger traffic in August compared to the same period in 2007.     Abu Dhabi International Airport's (ADIA) monthly traffic figures for July showed a 26.7% increase in passenger numbers compared with the same month last year, according to the Abu Dhabi Airports Company.     Abu Dhabi National Hotels has announced the signing of a management agreement with Hyatt International.     UAE-based storage and logistics company Agility said it will pay $50.5 million to buy all of Baisui United Logistics (Shanghai) Co, a Chinese logistics provider, reported Bloomberg. Baisui's services include intra-city, regional and long-haul transport and warehousing mainly to the chemicals, automotive and the fast-moving consumer goods industry.

    Logistics company Agility has bought Geopetrol International, a Canadian firm that specialises in freight forwarding in the oil and gas market. Geopetrol focuses on project logistics, such as heavy lift and oversize cargo. Agility CEO Mark Soubry said the acquisition gives the company 'strategic capabilities to tackle the growing opportunities within Canada [and the] oil and gas markets'.
  • Agility expands Abu Dhabi unit

    Agility Abu Dhabi is building a 400,000sqm warehousing facility in Mussafah and is planning to purchase hundreds of heavy transport lorries, from its current 200 trailers up to 500, The National has reported. The warehouse is scheduled to open in January 2010.

    Agility has announced the signing of a KD3.2m ($11.8mm) contract with the Kuwait National Petroleum Company to provide 4PL logistics solutions in Kuwait.   • Air Arabia opens sales shop in Iran

    Air Arabia, the largest low-cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa, has opened its first fully-dedicated sales shop in Tehran, Iran. The Sharjah-based carrier, which has provided direct flights to Iran since 2006, currently offers seven flights per week to Iran, including three flights per week to Tehran and four to Shiraz.
  • Air Arabia plans Morocco hub

    Sharjah-based low cost carrier Air Arabia will soon launch a hub in Morocco with a dedicated fleet of A320s, reported Khaleej Times. The airline's CEO Adel Ali said the launch is likely to take place by the end of this year or early 2009. Air Arabia announced, at the end of last year, that it would establish a hub in Morocco's capital Rabat, providing a platform to reach Europe, Africa and those parts of the Middle East beyond it's reach in Sharjah.

    UAE-based low-cost carrier Air Arabia has announced that it will launch daily service to Hyderabad, India, beginning October 27, 2008.   • Air Arabia to fly to Ukraine

    Sharjah-based budget carrier Air Arabia said it will start flying to the Ukrainian capital Kiev from October 15. The airline said the launch of the new destination reflects its growing expansion into another region in Eastern Europe. The carrier will fly to Kiev three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between October 15 and October 25. Between October 26 and March 28, the carrier will fly to Kiev three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Airbus aims to keep A380 on target

    A senior Airbus official said the airliner is going 'flat out' to ensure it meets its target of delivering 12 A380 superjumbos in 2008 and believes next year's target of 21 deliveries also remains realistic, reported Reuters. A French newspaper reported on Sunday that the A380, which is running more than two years late after four separate shifts in the development timetable, faced another setback with only 8-10 aircraft ready to be delivered in 2008.

    Saudi investor Mohammad Bin Eisa Al Jaber will not buy Austrian Airlines shares in the rights issue the carrier launched two weeks ago, reported Reuters. The share issue is not related to the ongoing process of selling part of the Austrian government's stake in the airline, but was part of a deal earlier this year under which Al Jaber would have bought 20%.     Kerzner International, developer of the Atlantis resort on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, is planning a $1bn expansion of the resort, reported Gulf News. Currently the $1.5bn resort only occupies 50% of the land area that Kerzner International owns and there are plans to develop a mixed-use Cove Atlantis on the remaining land that will consist of hotels and condos.     Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, is set to open today as planned following a fire earlier this month. The hotel will be the first of 33 five star hotels on the palm, featuring 1,500 rooms, 17 restaurants, a children's club, and suites with indoor lagoon views. Other facilities include up to 20 shops, a water park with a slide entering shark-infested waters, and a dolphin enclosure.
  • BA halts Pakistan flights indefinitely

    British Airways is suspending flights to and from Pakistan indefinitely following the deadly bomb attack on the Marriott Hotel, the airline said today. BA operates at least three flights a week from London's Heathrow to Pakistan's capital Islamabad, the site of the attack. Soon after Saturday's attack, the airline temporarily halted its flights and said it would review operations later in the week. Today's announcement extends the suspension, reported AP.

    Etihad Airways has set its sights on flying 25 million passengers a year by 2020, according to the Abu Dhabi-based airline's chief executive. CEO James Hogan announced the ambitious targets while addressing the American media in New York. In addition to the flight network growth, Etihad's workforce could also grow to 27,000 people by 2020, from its current 6,600, with most of the jobs based in Abu Dhabi.

    Etihad Airways has signed a new codeshare agreement with Malaysia Airlines. Under the deal, the Abu Dhabi-based airline will place its two-letter 'EY' code on Malaysia Airlines' flights between the country's capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and the popular islands of Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Kuching and Langkawi.     Planet Group, a Dubai-based tourism and ground handling company, is investing Dhs1.7bn ($463m) in two hotels in Abu Dhabi and one in Beirut, reported Gulf News. The Abu Dhabi properties will be a 420-unit serviced apartment complex and a 400-key five-star Planet Hotel in Danet Abu Dhabi.
