Saudi Aramco and its developer partners have broken ground on the Zuluf water treatment plant project in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. 

The project consists of a water treatment plant with a capacity to treat 185,000 cubic metres of water a day (cm/d).

The plant will treat water produced at the Zuluf oil field before it is reinjected back into the oil field, located 240 kilometres north of Dhahran.

A team led by Madrid-headquartered Almar Water Solutions won the 25-year build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) contract to develop and operate the facility.

The contract, signed in December 2022, reached financial closure in March 2023.

For the execution and operation of the plant, Almar Water Solutions is collaborating with a consortium

Almar Water Solutions will work with a consortium of companies formed by Riyadh-headquartered Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company (AEW), Italy's Fisia Italimpianti and US-based Aquatech International for the operation and management of the plant.

Aramco tendered the contract in October 2021.
