Oman’s Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry has invited firms to bid by 25 June for the contract to develop a fishery harbour at Dibba in Musandam governorate.
The scope of works includes:
- Bulk earthworks
- Seabed dredging within port basin and approach channel
- Reclamation to create land for infrastructure such as buildings, ship lift and marina facilities
- Two rubble mound breakwaters
- Quay walls, ship lift and other marine structures
- Berthing facilities including concrete floating pontoons, fenders, bollards and ancillary works
- Design, supply and installation of navigation aids
- Demolition of existing buildings and provision of temporary facilities
- Roads
- Utility corridors
The contract also covers the construction of multiple buildings dedicated to office administration, fish auction, facilities, ferry terminal and ice plant, among others.
In addition to developing a fishery sector, plans are underway to further develop Musandam’s tourism industry.
Oman’s Tourism Ministry recently signed an agreement with Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) to develop a via ferrata, zipline, hiking and biking trails in Musandam, which is already popular with tourists for its fishing and dolphin watching activities.
There was a 4.7 per cent increase in international visitors to the sultanate in 2017.
