Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has extended its programme management services for the $20bn Expressway Programme with US-based KBR by two years.
The extended contract carries a one-year option, KBR said in a statement.
Under the terms of the extended contract, KBR will provide “procurement, engineering, construction management, commercial management, project controls, QHSE and public relations” services.
According to KBR, the new phase of the contract will see a transition in the way the Doha Expressway Programme is delivered.
MEED understands that the new phase of the contract will require KBR experts to “be embedded into Ashghal's organisation to form a highly skilled and agile integrated client team working directly with the supply chain”.
This phase of the project will now focus on construction management, closing projects out both technically and commercially, and handing assets over to the relevant authorities, KBR said.
The Expressway Programme consists of more than 60 major projects to deliver 800 kilometres of new or upgraded roads and more than 200 interchanges.
The programme is part of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and 2022 FIFA World Cup preparation.
