ABB awarded contracts worth $59m in Abu Dhabi

The contracts are to upgrade and expand power transmission and distribution systems

UAEZurich-based ABBhas been awarded two contracts totalling $59 million to upgrade and expand power transmission and distribution systems for Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA). The first contract covers the supply of 50 33/11-kV substations, 386 medium-voltage switchgear panels and 20 transformers.

The second package calls for the supply of five 33/11-kV substations, 250 gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) panels and 25 transformers. Supply of the equipment will be phased over 20 months, with first delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2004. ABB has been awarded a number of equipment supply contracts by ADWEA recently. In July, the company won two packages of work, worth a total of $49 million, to install an underground cable system in Abu Dhabi city and to replace a 132/11-kV substation (MEED 25:7:03).
