ABB secures ADWEA deal

Zurich-based ABB announced on 3 September a $59 million deal to upgrade and expand the power transmission and distribution system in the UAE.

The contract with Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Board ( ADWEA) is split into two packages. The first element involves the supply of 50 pre-engineered and self-contained 33/11kV distribution substations. The package also includes 386 medium-voltage switchgear panels and 20 transformers. The second contract is to supply five 33/11kV distribution substations and 250 air and gas insulated switchgear panels, as well as 25 distribution transformers.

ABBhas recently secured a number of deals in the UAE. The most recent was a $49 million contract signed in August with ADWEAfor an underground cable system and the replacement of an existing substation in Abu Dhabi (MEED 8:8:03).
