ABB wins Sulaibiya substation contract

Europe’s ABB has won a contract for the supply and installation of a substation at Sulaibiya in Kuwait.

ABB submitted a price of KD42.3m ($159m) for the engineering, procurement and construction contract.

Under the contract, the company will supply and install the 300/400kV Sulaibiya Z substation. The Electricity & Water Ministry is the client.

ABB was the only bidder for the contract in August. The engineering firm is also the low bidder at KD38.1m for the contract to build the Fintas Z substation.

Germany's Siemens and France's Areva were the other bidders for the job, with offers of KD42m and KD45.2m respectively.

ABB also submitted the lowest bid on the similar contract to build the Jabriya Z substation with a price of KD34.6m ahead of bids of KD38.6m, KD40.6m and KD45.2m from Siemens, Areva and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company respectively (MEED 31:8:08).
