Biography: Abdel Fattah al-Nsour became chief executive officer (CEO) of Cegco in April 2008, the culmination of 25 years in the sector. He has been an employee of Cegco since its creation in 1999, when it was made responsible for the state’s electricity generation sector.
Al-Nsour previously held a number of posts at Aqaba thermal power station before becoming Cegco’s director general in October 2003. His professional experience also includes 10 years as a shift engineer at the Jordan Electricity Authority. He began his career in 1983 at the Jordan Electricity Authority before joining Cegco, which is Jordan’s largest electricity company and produces around 52 per cent of the country’s power.
Al-Nsour has led the transformation of Cegco from a government utility into an independent power project (IPP) business. He has also overseen the development of the Samra power plant and the Aqaba gas conversion project. Al-Nsour graduated from Minia University in Egypt in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He also has a diploma in utility management from Ireland’s University College Dublin having graduated in 1991. Cegco is majority owned by Enara Energy Investments, which is majority owned by Saudi developer Acwa Power.
