Abdulla Mohammed al-Awar
Position: CEO, DIFC Authority
Biography: In June 2009, Abdulla Mohammed al-Awar was appointed CEO of DIFC Authority, the body in charge of the development and operation of DIFC. Al-Awar is responsible for formulating the centre’s strategy and achieving its objectives.
He also acts as its public face in promoting its activities as a global financial centre. Prior to June 2009, Al-Awar served as managing director of DIFC Authority, helping to attract foreign banks to establish operations in the centre. He started his career as part of the founding team behind Dubai Knowledge Village and Internet City.
Currently, Al-Awar sits on the boards of Borse Dubai, the exchange operator that owns the Dubai Financial Market and the Nasdaq Dubai (formerly Dubai International Financial Exchange), and Dubai Executive Jets. He has a degree in business administration from the University of Colorado in the US.
