Abu Dhabi awards airport runway contract

Contract covers rehabilitation of runway

A consortium led by the US’ Lane Mideast Contracting and including Dubai-based Drake & Scull International and the National Contracting & Transport Company has been awarded a AED364m ($99m) contract for the rehabilitation of the existing South Airfield runway at the Abu Dhabi International airport.

The scope of work includes new taxiways, widening of the existing runway to 60 metres wide, the installation of storm drainage, the replacement of the existing ground lighting system.

Lane and National Contracting also joint venture partners on the new runway being built at Sharjah International airport, which is currently under construction.

The contract award follows the confirmation that Indian firm Larsen & Toubro have won the $256m contract to build airside areas at the airport.
