Finnish firm will provide 30 cranes for the new Khalifa Port

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has awarded a contract to Konecranes Finland Corporation to provide stacking cranes for the new Khalifa Port.

The contract will cover the provision of 30 automated cranes for the port, which will be used to stack containers for the planned automated terminal.

The cranes will be delivered in two batches to the port. The first batch of 14 cranes will be delivered at the end of March 2012, with the second batch of 16 cranes delivered at the end of June 2012.

In September ADPC awarded South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering & Construction the estimated $390m contract to build the container terminal at the new port.

The contract also involves building port operations buildings, finishing the earthworks for the terminal area, setting up mooring systems and installing utilities, such as electricity supply cables, substations and water pipes. The container terminal is offshore and construction is expected to be completed in 2012 (MEED 3:9:10).
