ABB and Torishima win pumping station contracts

Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (Transco) has awarded two major water transmission contracts, worth a total of AED1.1bn ($306m).

Switzerland-based ABB has won a AED530m contract for the upgrade of the Shuweihat water transmission system. The project will increase the capacity of the system from 100 million gallons a day (g/d) to 180 million g/d to facilitate water transmission from the Shuweihat 2 independent water and power project, which is currently under construction.

The contract covers the construction of four 30 million-g/d pumping stations at Shuweihat and two 30 million-g/d pumping stations at Mirfa.

Transco awarded a second, AED593m contract to Japan’s Torishima Pump. The company will carry out engineering, procurement and construction work for a new pumping station at Al-Ain. The project is part of plans to build a water distribution network in Al-Ain.
