City’s sewage growing by 10 per cent a year
Abu Dhabi city’s production of sewage is growing by 10 per cent annually and is now about 570,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d), the MEED Water & Wastewater conference was told on 27 November.
The city’s sewage treatment capacity is 700,000 cm/d.
“If we project 10 per cent growth, we may need to make a decision about a new treatment plant in the next year or so,” said Alan Thomson, managing director at Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC).
Thomson said ADSSC projects included completing the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP), expanding the emirate’s sewage collection network and rehabilitating pipelines and pumping stations.
