Abu Dhabi invites interest for Terminal 1 expansion

31 March 2013

Expressions of interest to submitted by 3 April

Contractors are being invited to express interest in a tender covering the construction works for the expansion of the baggage reclaim area at Abu Dhabi International airport’s Terminal 1.

The Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) has set a deadline of 3 April for expressions of interest to be submitted.

The contract’s scope of work includes the construction of an extension to the existing reclaim area, as well as the replacement and upgrade of baggage carousels.

At the end of March, ADAC awarded a joint venture of UK’s Taylor Woodrow and the Abu Dhabi contractor Fibrex Construction Group the contract to upgrade Terminal 3 at the airport.

The contract forms part of a plan to expand the capacity of the existing airport infrastructure ahead of the completion of the midfield terminal building in 2017.

The airport’s current infrastructure is being pushed to capacity as passenger throughput continues to rise. More than 1.2 million passengers passed through the Abu Dhabi International airport in February, an increase of 13.1 per cent over the same month last year.
